Chris Elston in Slovakia and Moldova

Chris Elston, formerly a teacher at Christ Church School, is a member of Christ Church and a regular visitor when on leave.

He served many years with Scripture Union in Slovakia and while there set up his own school for teaching English as a foreign language in Kosice. His aims were to provide excellence in teaching and to help students hear the call of God in their lives. He held weekly Bible studies in his flat.

In autumn 2009, he set up English classes as part of the outreach programme of Emanuel Church in Cahul, Moldova. Moving there full-time from Slovakia in 2011, he has seen the language school expand considerably as God has sent more and more students. In 2019 the school has 440 students, children, teenagers and adults, with 7 teachers, 3 being native English speakers. Chris’s aims remain similar, that there should be excellence of teaching in a loving and caring environment, leading the students to desire to know who Jesus is and to come to Him for life.

Chris is also involved with, and assists, a school at a church in Tiraspol in the unrecognised state of Transnistria (on the territory of Moldova), and still visits Slovakia once a year.

Besides serving as a teacher, Chris has served on church and town committees to counter sex trafficking, a very major problem in poverty-stricken Moldova.
